London postcodes and Leeds pack a punch

Outside of London, Leeds is the top paying postcode, with an average advertised salary of £37,823. The city is home to big-name companies. For example, Asda, First Direct, Yorkshire Bank, Centrica, Evri, and Direct Line are all based in the Yorkshire city, while broadcaster Channel 4 has also set up its UK HQ in Leeds.

It is nonetheless surprising that Leeds beats ‘Silicon Fen’ city Cambridge, where advertised salaries average £37,692, as well as engineering, tech and finance hub Bristol (£37,281). Even creative hub Manchester (£36,690) is surpassed in the salary stakes by Leeds.

Unsurprisingly, London postcodes came out on top of the 120 postcode areas with data, with five of the eight postal districts in London snatching the top spots.

East Central London, home to the Square Mile, is the top-paying postcode, where advertised salaries average £56,497. This is followed by SW and SE (South West London and South East London), the remaining two postcodes on the list with average advertised salaries over £40,000.
