Adzuna has the most complete index of UK job vacancies covering all regions in the UK, based on every job vacancy advertised online in the UK from over 1,000 sources. This data is then normalised, de-duplicated, mix-adjusted and outliers are removed in real time to give an accurate, complete, up to the minute view of the job market. Our UK Job Market Report tracks advertised vacancies, average advertised salaries, competition for jobs, trending roles, time to fill positions, and more.

We also supply real-time data to the Number 10 Dashboard, the Cabinet Office and the Office for National Statistics’ labour market indices. For more granular data breakdowns at a local authority level, job title, or skill level, please contact our labour market intelligence division, Adzuna Intelligence.

Vacancies

For the first time since July 2022, vacancies saw positive annual growth of +1.03%. Additionally, vacancies grew for a second straight month, up +1.38% MoM to 871,168 jobs.

Salaries

Average salaries continued climbing to a record-high £41,962 – a +8.6% YoY increase, and the highest annual jump since June 2022.

Salary transparency increased again in March to 48.62%, and while this means there are still more job adverts without salary information (51.38%), it marks the third consecutive month of growth.

Time to fill

The average time it takes to fill job roles is now 35.3 days, up from 34.9 days in the previous month.

Competition

The rise in total vacancies saw March’s jobseeker per vacancy ratio remain steady at 2.04, the same as February, after hitting 2.05 in January.

Hottest cities

Cambridge remains the top city for job hunters, with the lowest jobseeker to available roles ratio at 0.4, with 6,781 roles available. Guildford comes second with 0.45 and Oxford third with 0.69.

The hardest city to find a role is Bradford, with 9.07 jobseekers per role, followed by Birmingham (5.22) and Luton (5.07).

UK regions

Both annual vacancy and salary highs were fuelled largely by Northern Ireland. The region not only saw year-on-year job roles jump +36.44% – the biggest 12-month increase of any region. This was followed by Eastern England, with vacancies up +1.42% MoM and +6.76% annually.

There are now five regions with average salaries above £40,000. Unsurprisingly, London led the pack with an average advertised salary of £48,276.

UK sectors

March saw a continued uplift in hiring across the majority of sectors, giving further hope to jobseekers across the UK following February’s rises.

Teaching roles rose by +1.93% month-on-month to over 163,000 jobs, maintaining their position as the largest hiring sector. Healthcare & Nursing (+9.59%), Social Work (+8.64%), Travel (+8.55%), and Hospitality & Catering (+5.91%) also experienced strong monthly growth, reflecting ongoing demand in frontline services and seasonal hiring ahead of the Easter and Summer rush. Social work (+18.04%) also saw year-on-year gains, as did Legal (+17.47%), demonstrating signs of resilience in education, care, and professional services.

However, some sectors saw month-on-month vacancy declines, with Graduate roles falling the most (-17.3%), following a previous +16.7% surge in February, with roles dropping to 16,373 – the lowest since Sep 2020. This was followed by Trade & Construction jobs (-4.57%), Scientific and QA jobs (-2.95%), and Energy, Oil & Gas (-2.9%).

Annually, the drops were even more pronounced, particularly in Retail (-43.11%), Travel (-37.47%), Energy, Oil & Gas (-33.06%) and PR, Advertising & Marketing (-30.61%).

Salaries continue to edge upward across most sectors. Energy, Oil & Gas saw the strongest monthly wage growth at +3.6%, followed by Teaching (+2.86%) and Healthcare & Nursing (+1.81%). Only three sectors reported salary dips, including Sales (-1.24%), Maintenance (-0.48%), and Charity & Voluntary (-0.23%).

On an annual basis, a number of sectors recorded double-digit salary growth. Logistics & Warehouse led the pack with +19.64% growth, followed by Maintenance (+17.35%), Domestic Help & Cleaning (+13.2%), Retail (+12.88%), Customer Services (+12.76%), Teaching (+11.92%), IT (11.31%), and Travel (+10.74%). Legal was the only sector to post a decline in annual salaries for the second consecutive month, down -1% compared to March 2024.

Sectors with the shortest time to fill jobs were Legal (31.1 days) and Admin (32.0 days), whilst the sectors where roles took the longest to fill include Energy, Oil & Gas (40.1 days), IT (39.2 days), and Consultancy (38.4 days).

Trending jobs

After Internship, Project Manager and Software Developer roles all entered Adzuna’s Trending Role list in February for the first time, only Project Manager remained in March, in tenth place (down from sixth). Internship and Software Developer searches were replaced by Sales Assistant (eight) and Receptionist (ninth).

Healthcare Support Worker kept the top spot for the fourth month in a row. Warehouse Worker climbed from fourth to second place, overtaking Social Care Worker, which slipped to third.

About the Job Market Report

Adzuna has the most complete index of UK job vacancies covering all regions in the UK. The technology collects every job vacancy advertised online in the UK from over 1,000 sources. This data is then normalised, de-duplicated, mix-adjusted and outliers are removed in real time to give users an accurate, complete, up to the minute view of the job market.

Claimant count data is based on the latest Labour Market Statistics released by the ONS. The city areas referred to in this study are the top 50 cities in the UK, ranked by comparing the job vacancies in Adzuna’s comprehensive search index of over 1,000,000 live jobs to the number of claimants in each city from the latest ONS data. The full Jobseeker’s Allowance claimant count statistics are available for download here: www.nomisweb.co.uk.

The interest quotient for key roles is calculated by comparing how many views job postings for different occupations on Adzuna receive over a given month and comparing this to the overall job posting views over the same period. It provides a proxy for talent supply in the jobs market.
